Quotes

If there is light in soul, there will be beauty in a man.

If there is beauty in a man, there will be harmony in his/her home.

If there is harmony in his/her home, there will be calm in the country.

If there is calm in the country, there will be peace in the world.

- Chinese proverb

It may help to think of language as a great field of word plants. Whenever most people focus their attention on one subject, it´s like a great dose of fertilizer and rain on that portion of the field. Existing words grow and flower into new meanings. Nouns sprout verbs.

- Allan Metcalf  (American linguist)

Hope is the thing
With feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune
Without the words
And never stops at all.

Have you got a brook in your little heart,

morality comes and grows.

Types of interpreting

Consecutive interpreting

Is the process in which the interpreter translates a few sentences at a time for the audience, alternating with the person who is talking. This technique is widely used in business and technical negotiations, trainng sessions, factory tours etc.

Simultaneous - Conference Interpreting

The original speach is immediately interpreted into the target language; the interpreter talks at the same time as the speaker, usually in a conference or meeting. For this type of interpreting, a pair of interpreters will take turns as the work is very demanding. Special interpreting equipment is necessary (radio microphone for the interpreter and headsets for the listeners.

´Chuchotage´ -  Whispering

This is a form of simultaneous interpreting, the interpreter works without technical aids - there is only one listener (max. two) requiring interpreting of the speaker´s words, the interpreter sits by /behind the client and interprets in a low voice.

Escort interpreting

The interpreter accompanies the client, who is conducting an on-site visit, company visit, at a business lunch etc.
